Darksiders II follows the death of companies, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, in an action-packed tale that runs parallel to the events of the original game Darksiders. Like the original game Darksiders first, the second iteration of the series is mainly a hack 'n slash adventure. The game takes place in the underworld environments, including "The White City", an outpost where angels live, and "The Eternal Throne", a floating fortress where the Lords of the Dead guard souls who need to be purified.

 Although death is the most feared of the Four Horsemen, his physical abilities are very different from that of his brother, War. Death is much more agile, and is based on a combination of melee and ranged attacks.
